ALTHEA HURWITZ
Multi-Media Artist and Aspiring Educator
Brooklyn, NY
Hello! My name is Althea. I'm originally from Arlington, VA, and grew up exploring Washington, D.C. I am a 2022 graduate of NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where I devised an academic concentration titled Art In Real Life: Exploring Access and Meaningful Participation in Art Education. I currently work at the Brooklyn Public Library as a Programming Specialist for their Inclusive Services department. I have work experience at the Children's Museum of Manhattan, Jewish Museum in NYC, and the Smithsonian's National Postal Museum, where I completed an art history research project for the Katzenberger Program. I have also worked for art spaces around NYC including WhiteBox NYC, FreeArts NYC, and CityArts NYC. In the D.C. area, I have worked at the Arlington Arts Center, Studio Gallery D.C., and Art Enables in Education and Curatorial intern positions. In my spare time I love making colorful art, playing ultimate frisbee, and searching for my next pair of giant earrings.

I aspire to be an art educator specializing in the therapeutic qualities of art and the belief that art should be accessible to all. I would love to connect with artists, writers, and educators in the NYC area!
